Humanity

Have you heard the song “How He Loves”?

It is an amazing song. It was written as a cry to God from, John Mark McMillan, when his dear friend and ministry partner passed away. John Mark wrote this song from his heart, not as a song,  it was the only way he could express what he was feeling.

A funny thing happened, the song has taken on a life of its own and now the impact of that song is much greater than even the personal ministry that John Marks friend would have ever been able to develop. The transition from a personal ministry to an international worship experience could never be scripted. The reason, HUMANITY. There is a humanity in the song. Human emotion. Authenticity. It is not about cliches, it is about experience, authenticity, feelings, hurts, wounds, grace, redemption, and love.

It has been proven that the items that live the longest, get the most comments, and are discussed most on Facebook are when people become personal and share real life experiences.

None of this should shock us. Nothing has changed since  Jesus walked the earth. Jesus was not about theology, He was about humanity. He was about people. He talked to them. He spent time with them. He entered their worlds, shared, lived, loved, gave and ate with them.

James Carville told Bill Clinton during the 1992 election: “It’s the economy stupid.” That was the issue that everyone cared about. Hopefully I won’t overstep our relationship, but when it comes to Christianity and it making an impact in the lives of people: “Its the people stupid.”

People want to be humanized. They are not a number. They are not a thing. They are not a dollar sign. They have stories, they have issues. They have problems, hurts, wounds, bruises, and they want to share. They need to share. Be the humanity to the people around you. LIVE your faith, don’t just talk about it…because you might be the one piece of humanity that ever gets attached “Christianity” for that someone in your life.

One Response to “Humanity”

It goes to show that John Mark and his friend were more about impacting one then getting caught up in the idea of wanting to impact millions.
I think a lot of the time dreams or messages go unheard is because we get caught up more in the idea of impacting millions then just one and in turn we quit because we are not “happy” when only 10 people are impacted instead of 10 million.

Great connection here on Humanity and Jesus and tying in a beautiful song.
