Made of Ideas

Newsweek reported that for the first time ever research is reporting that creativity is declining in America. Testing shows that kids are less creative. There is now a push for creativity to be taught in schools. With 1500 CEO’s stating that the number one leadership quality necessary to lead organizations into the future is creativity, it is so important that we continually develop creative thought. I think that even the concept of creativity has been lost. I hear so many people talk about how they are not “creative”. I just do not buy it. God created us all to be creative. Some people have embraced creativity and allowed it to become part of who they are, while others have bought they lie they are not creative and can’t create. The thing is, creativity is not this magical, illusive concept.

  • Creativity requires challenging the status quo
  • Creativity requires constant shifting
  • Creativity requires space and room to develop and be creative
  • Creativity requires quiet time
  • Creativity is more than a cool tat or hat, it is a unique approach to situations
  • Creativity is the ideas and the execution of those ideas to help change things
  • Creativity is making concepts more sticky
  • Creativity is telling great stories
  • Creativity is a rhythm that people can groove to
  • Creativity is working out the muscles you have neglected
  • Creativity is challenging yourself
  • Creativity is finding a different approach AND a different destination
  • Creativity is disrupting our norm
  • Creativity is not just standards
  • Creativity is problem solving
  • Creativity is all around us
  • Creativity is accidental
  • Creativity is intentional

Now lets make it happen. Lets start to be creative in our worlds. It is all of our responsibility to develop our personal creative edge. As creatives, we should be developing cultures where creativity can grow and develop. As parents, we should be giving our kids time to be creative. What do you do to be more creative every day?

I think the reason why creativity is declining is because we are starting to create for someone to notice instead of just creating. Its like the musician who starts out singing in hopes of selling millions of albums vs the guy who sings in his room and occasionally at open bars just to sing, for the art of creativity and music.

I guess what I am saying is that often times when I start to create to get others to notice it isn’t very creative, its just manipulation to get someone to notice something.

children as a whole are less creative because we don’t give them time to create or imagine. we push them to conform at school and in public. we want our own children to fit in. other parents are only willing to accept so much risk from someone else’s children. does this sound like a rant? i tried to let my childrem be who God intended…. to protect them from my own creative boundaries & those of others. i hope they will do better when they have kids.
