Masks

The other day I was talking to my friend about authenticity. You know, “being real”. Then today I ended up in another conversation about the same thing, I rarely feel this way, but I felt the need to blog on this subject.

  1. As people we want to be accepted. That fear of rejection removes the desire to be real with each other.
  2. We all wear masks on some level.
  3. Until we get to the place where we are willing to be broken we never really take off the mask.
  4. Authenticity is usually forced on us after either we fail, crises, or face the truth that we suck and expose ourself.
  5. There is a pressure for people, and especially people in ministry, to live so “right” they are afraid to allow their failures, or mistakes, to be exposed.
  6. Real community and relationship is the result of brokenness and taking off masks. There is a different depth in love when people know we don’t have it all together.
  7. When we confront our authentic nature, we realize we are screwed up. At that point we can take our masks off and replace them with Grace and Mercy. Neither of those 2 masks come cheap.
  8. It is a constant journey to remove your masks and keep them off. A daily task.

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
