Stronger, More Creative, Healthier Teams (5 options)
Creative people value relevance. In order to
1. Trust and Protect Your Team -One of the biggest lessons I have learned is the need to protect my team. When they know they are protected they are free to create, process, and enjoy their jobs. The less protection they feel they have, the less likely they are to invest. Also, when dealing with creative people, it is so important for them to know you trust them. You don’t have to understand them fully, but if they know they are trusted, they are able to work much in the same spaces as when they know they are protected. If you trusted them enough to hire them, trust them enough to let them do their jobs.
2. Celebrate Team members Creatives love to be valued. Let them know that you appreciate them, the uniqueness in them, and not just what they create. The person is not the idea or creation. Value the people and you will have all the creation you can handle.
3. Over ShareGive the truth. Give it often. Give all of it. It might not be fun, happy, or what is needed to hear but you can not manage expectations on your team if everyone is not aware of the truth.
4. Avoid The Unnecessary Unnecessary rules, Unnecessary meetings, Unnecessary procedures, Unnecessary conversations, Unnecessary management, Unnecessary _______________. Make it not exist.
5. Promote Individualism Celebrate the very thing that makes creative people creative…the ability to see, feel, hear, taste, smell, and articulate the stuff no one sees. Part of that art or talent comes with unique, odd, or different approaches to the world. If we all saw the world through the same lens, there would be nothing different. Celebrate the individual in EACH member of your team. Don’t just tolerate it, promote it. Celebrate it, share it, make it so part of who they are that they can be the fully unique creature God created them to be.
What do you do to make your team stronger, more creative and a little healthier?
