The Better Boss

Top 10 things that can help us be better bosses:

  1. Respect employees. Respect their time, circumstances, ideas, feelings, position. You do not have to agree, but respect how they feel.
  2. Be slow to accept credit and quick to accept fault. Build solid chemistry.
  3. Realize you do not have all the answers. Other peoples ideas might be better than yours.
  4. If you have hired the right people, give them room to do the job. Trust them, give them space. It may not be done your way, but you hired this person for a reason, let them work it.
  5. Be willing to ask the hard questions, even of ourselves.
  6. Create a healthy balance between “creatives” and “counters”. Every organization NEEDS both. Balancing these worlds is not easy.
  7. Find space to evaluate success and failure. Why did X happen? How could we improve? What did we do right or wrong. BE HONEST.
  8. Set your employes up to win. The set up is as important as the execution. Create healthy opportunities for success.
  9. Seek wise counsel. We are not as good as we think, getting solid advice, and finding a mentor is a key to succeeding.
  10. Be Humble.
