The Scary Words…
I am the biggest chicken.
Really. I do not like scary movies, to be afraid, or even to be startled. But there is one thing, that when shakes me to the core.
When hearing people talk and the focus of the conversation is engulfed with “I”, “me”, “my”.
Like sirens start going off everywhere: “My church..”, “I started this…” blah blah blah…
The really good communicators/leaders know it is not about them. They are a member of a team, and if they are not, they are underperforming and cheating their potential. Not a more important member, just a teammate who has a role to play in the process of achieving a goal.
The sum is way more valuable than the individual parts. If you do not honor the people on your team you will never keep the quality team members, volunteers, donors, “tithers”, partners, or friends. THEY make it run, THEY also do heavy lifting. THEY sacrifice and give because THEY believe in YOU, and the vision, and the calling, and what God has for YOU (collective).

Dude, it is like you wrote this blog post about me…kidding (that was a bad attempt at a joke)
I am right there with you, I hate scary movies with a passion. Probably because they scare me, but also because they just do not interest me.
The funny thing about this post is that I always notice that. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Like the word “um” from a nervous public speaker.
I cringe every time I hear someone say “My church” or “I lead this church” or “at my church”
You are right, not I or my but our church
