Want To Be A Better Employee?
On some level we are all employees. We have clients, congregations, boards, bosses, people we report to etc. Since we all get a paycheck from someone we should always strive to be our best. As leaders, we should be assessing our teams and looking for people who are doing what they can to be the best.
Shopping today I saw the good, the bad, and the ugly of employees. Here are a couple of things that I think can help us develop as better employees.
- Show up. Be on time. Don’t complain about the fact you have a job and the ability to work.
- Be available. Look for opportunities to go out of your way. Try to find ways to go over the top. Create the best experiences possible.
- Act like you own the company, that it is yours, and your name is on the door. How you act will change drastically. Have an owners mentality, not a renters mentality.
- Don’t get caught up in complaining about the problems, correct them. Be a problem solver not just a problem spotter.
- Never be divisive. Build team not silos. Build things up don’t tear them down.
- Always have respect. Respect those you work with, respect the user/customer, respect the system.
- If you do not like where you are at, leave. Go find a place that fits who you are, what you do, and how you tick.
- HUSTLE! Nothing replaces passion/hustle. Someone who has hustle, but lacks knowledge is way better than someone with knowledge but is lazy. End of story.
- Be kind, be thankful, find a way to have fun.
Tomorrow, better bosses!
