This is it! The final installment of the WORSHIP LEADER PROCESS. On Friday we will announce the winners of the Beats so make sure you RT this post or share it on Facebook.

To close the campaign we have the honor of sharing the process of JARED ANDERSON. In addition to being one of the best songwriters on the planet, Jared and his family just adopted 2 kids from Haiti! You can read about that here.

Jared has a brand new album that comes out on September 4! You will not want to miss this record.

1. What does your creative process look like?

  • The zone. It’s an envelope that opens in your soul and involves your whole body. It’s a grand reveal… an unfolding of the subconscious.

2. When you write worship songs do you identify a target audience or focus on theme?

  • No. Pay careful attention to what goes into you and pay no attention to what comes out. Editing is for another day. Don’t think. Write.

3. Do you have a favorite place to write or create?

  • At the mostinconvenient times. When things are due. When kids are screaming. In the middle of conversations with people over for dinner.

4. What inspires you the most?

  • Pain

5. When you feel you have hit a creative block, how do you overcome that moment?

  • Perseverance. Every obstacle is meant to be overcome.

6. Do you prefer to create in community or on your own?

  • You’re always creating in community. No man is an island (to borrow a phrase). I love co-writing as much as I love creating in solitude. Co-writing goes much quicker and tends to be more palatable. Writing in solitude tends to be deeper, more authentic, and visionary.

7. What is the hardest part of creating worship sets every week (or as often as you lead worship)?

  • Wondering if people are going to feel what I feel. They may be moved like I am or tilt their heads and stare awkwardly.

8. How do you balance original songs with songs that are leading the global church when you are creating a set?

  • It’s very important to communicate through our worship that we are not writing new songs just re-writing old songs. I take lots of opportunities to reference a newer or local song to an older or global song.

9. Who is the one writer you have not worked with that you would love to write a songwith?

  • Matt Redman
So there you have it. Hope you have enjoyed this campaign. What does your process look like for writing songs? Choose a question or a few and answer below.
