permission

You don’t need permission to create.

The fact you were hired, invited, or asked to do what you do is all the permission you need.

A funny thing happens, as a creative person you inevitably at times have shuttered in fear and hid behind “permission” in order to protect you from the criticism or failure that comes with being brave and making then sharing something new.

But the truth is if you want to do what you were born to do, what must be done to move your department, art, organization, and live forward, you have to be brave.

Stop waiting for permission, your permission is given when you show up and start working.

And if you believe that you are struggling to earn the equity to create there is an easy fix for that problem. Start to care about what the person you report to cares most about. Create around those desires or hot buttons first and once you have done that use your remaining margin to create what you need/want. The equity you will earn from caring about your “bosses” thing will give you more permission than you could ever imagine.

So today…create. Be an innovator. Be a storyteller. Write an amazing song. Make the best art you have ever made. You not only have permission, you have a responsibility and everyone is waiting for you to change their world…even if they don’t know it yet. Be brave.
