The New Yoker recently ran an article about how professional athletes have focused on improvement over the course of the past 30 years. There was a day that when you became “a professional” you arrived. There was not a strong focus on improvement, coaching, or training. Being a professional was the justification of your skills and the talent you had was enough to establish you. You succeeded or failed on that talent alone.

Those days are over.

We can all get better. There is always someone a step ahead of us we can learn from. Technology makes development and growth attainable for anyone at any level.

Last night my son came home with a project. After about 20 minutes he said: “Dad, this is good enough. Let’s be done.” What a great moment for coaching…

  • WE ARE HERE
  • WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY
  • WE GET TO FOCUS ON DETAILS THAT CAN MAKE US BETTER

Every day is an opportunity to grow and get better. You can become a better leader, more creative, a better practitioner of your craft…but it starts with you.

Are you willing to stay humble and learn? Are you searching for the “blind spots” in your skills, talents, your team, yourself? Are you seeking someone who can help you improve? Do you look at data and metrics of how your work is performing or are you afraid of what you might find?

You have an opportunity. No matter what has happened in the past…you have the chance to get better today. Did last Sunday suck? Good. Make this Sunday better. Did your last presentation bomb? Awesome! Learn from it, adjust, refine, PRACTICE, and kill the next one.

This is your moment. This is your opportunity. You are here so you may as well make the most of the time you have and give it all you got!

DON'T WASTE THIS CRISIS.
